Please join us and many other animal shelters and rescues for this year’s Grey Kitty Birthday Adoption Event! The adoption event is on Saturday and Sunday (the 16th & 17th of July) at Tagawa Gardens from 10am to 3pm both days. We will have several Syrian Hamsters available at Tagawa for adoption and flyers for the other animals that do not travel quite as well. Here is the map!

I received this handmade card from a very special 6 year old girl after Momoe, our resident sugar glider passed last month. Today we also said goodbye to Jack Jack, a sanctuary rat that had been with us since September 2009, and it made me think back to this thoughtful gesture once again. Each animal that comes into Apple Wood takes a piece of my heart when they leave. Whether their leaving is by adoption or by their passing, we will remember them all. Each one is special, each one deserves the best, and each one will never be forgotten.

Thank you so much to everyone that shares in the ups and downs of this shelter and its animals. We appreciate your support tremendously!

Please join us and 30 other shelters and rescues this Saturday, May 21st from 10-3 at PetCo in Golden, CO! PetCo’s address is 17132 West Colfax Ave. Golden, Colorado 80401 and is across from Home Depot and Khols intersection of 6th Ave and Colfax. We will have several Syrian Hamsters as well as a cutie patootie rat named Safari available for adoption at the event. Our chinchilla’s do not transport easily so we will have flyer’s available with their adoption information.

Momoe came to Apple Wood a sickly and skinny sugar glider. He was found as the sole survivor of a group of gliders left to fend for themselves. Momoe has really done well with us, thanks in large part to a good diet and clean environment.

Sometime during the day on 5/16/11, Momoe likely fell from a hammock at the top of his cage. He is currently in ICU at Alameda East being treated for head trauma. They have him in an oxygen enriched enclosure that is being warmed. His blood sugar is low and he’s having trouble keeping his temperature normal.

Please keep Momoe in your thoughts. He will need them to get through this. If you are able to help out, we would greatly appreciate it. The bill so far has been estimated at $700 for the low end. All donations are tax deductible and will go directly to cover the cost of his treatment. Please visit our ChipIn to donate to Momoe’s Vet care.

Update on Momoe

On the evening of 5/17/11 we decided to let Momoe go to the rainbow bridge. He was having seizures and had stopped eating while in ICU. He had fought as much as he could but was unable to come back to where he was before his fall. We will miss him tremendously! Sleep well little one. XOXO

Giant shout out to all that attended our Casino Night Fundraiser!! We raised over $800 for the shelter and couldn’t have been happier with how the evening went. Meet Professor Charles Xavier! His mom contacted me to surrender him as there will be major construction happening on their house possibly for an entire year. She doesn’t feel it is fair for him to have to be surrounded by those loud sounds and dust for such an extended time. We have decided to try and place him directly into a home and skip the shelter if possible. If you are interested in the Professor, please let me know and I will connect the two of you.

UPDATE! it seems that The Professor Charles Xavier will go to his forever home in mid May. We didn’t make this connection but are very happy that can avoid the shelter and move right into another home. Congrats little buddy!
