On Wednesday, April 24th Apple Wood Rescue will celebrate the fourth anniversary of helping the small exotic mammals around the Denver metro area. Come celebrate this moment with us and several of our creative neighbors at an Open House on Sunday, April 28th from 12-5pm at our location on Holly Street. We will be hosting a bake sale as our fundraiser and as always will have t-shirts available for a $15 donation. No adoptions today, though we will be accepting pre-adoption applications on our available animals. Here is the information on our neighbors participating in the Open House.
I thought it would be fun to share some data on the animals we have encountered during our four years of rescuing. As of April 23rd, we have taken in a total of 180 animals and have just recently placed our 100th animal into their permanent home. It’s been a busy 2013 as out of those 100 placements, 26 have been this year alone. The species numbers are as follows: 50 hamsters, 40 rats, 27 sugar gliders, 23 chinchillas, 14 degus, 12 mice, 9 gerbils, 3 hedgehogs and 2 wild wood rats. Now, hopefully that equals 180 animals! It has been my pleasure to help these critters along on their journeys. Whether that journey was to a new forever family, their journey across the rainbow bridge due to age or illness, releasing them on their journey back into the wild, or to welcome them home if their journey was over and they were to enter our Sanctuary program. Each life has touched my heart and I cannot imagine spending the last four years any other way. Thank you to my family, friends, and supporters to which none of this would have been possible. These lives and myself are forever changed and grateful. Hope to see you all at the Open House!
