Sanctuary
Author: Jinna
This page is for the small exotic mammals that will remain in our care for the entirety of their lives. We will only turn away an animal if we do not have adequate space to properly house them.
Currently in our Sanctuary we have 3 Rats, 1 Chinchilla, 1 Campbells Dwarf Hamster & 1 Gerbil.
This is Bella. She most likely has a damaged cerebellum due to an untreated ear infection or small stroke as a pup. This neurological disorder makes her head fling backwards with out warning. She also go’s 100 miles an hour when awake. She is very sweet and would be available for adoption to the right family who would be willing accept and work with her special needs. Long term experience with rats preferred.

This is Ms. Marty! Marty came to the shelter with matted fur and was very boney, she weighed only 350 grams. She has malocclusion and is missing about 40% of her teeth. Because of her missing and misaligned teeth, she needs a dental procedure every three to four months to file down her molars. She has really flourished here and her weight is now over 580 grams! She is a giant sweetheart who loves skritches and running in her wheel. She is doing great on her special diet and we’re very hopeful for her future!

Midge came to us from a large pet store where she became cage aggressive. She is completely adorable and very active when you are near her cage. As soon as the new food is down she is pouching it up and stashing it away. We will continue to work with her in attempt to overcome her aggression and would be open to discussing adoption to an adult only household.

And last but certainly not least is Spooky Dooky! Spooky is the cutest and most active gerbil I’ve ever met, but he is aggressive toward anything that enters his cage… including fingers and hands! Spooky’s favorite activities include tearing up paper towel rolls and running in his wheel right up against the side of the aquarium. (It works better that way!) He is currently Sanctuary, however if an appropriate adult only household wanted to give him a fur-ever home, we would be open to discussions.

If you would like to donate specifically for the long term care of these special babies, please indicate so in the message box of the Paypal donation.
